I'm late. The day slipped by and I never even noticed. Grandparent's Day is a day that normally just passes us by. In our busy lives, we are lucky to remember birthdays and major holidays. This year, I wanted to remember this important date. I am lucky that I have both of my grandmothers. One lives nearby and the other lives almost 2 hours away. She did live nearby, but circumstances changed. We live in a very rural area and there are not many neighbors. It can be very lonely. Especially when you are home relying on phone calls and visitors to drop in. I miss my grandmothers and wish that I could be around them more than I am. When one of my grandmothers became sick, I was told to stay away. Not by her, of course. But I understood why. Living nearby, I always helped with the little children when they came to visit. She loves us all, but sometimes hyper children get the best of her! To let her rest and recover, I kept my distance, but it has been very hard.
My children are very lucky. My parents are practically next door. They can watch my children grow up and we spend many weekend afternoons together. Most Fridays, Logan spends the night at their house. Since his grandpa works out of town during the week, it gives them time to bond. My husband's mom lives far away. I wish more than anything that she could be closer. She has done so much for our family, in so many different ways. She has held our family together at times without even realizing it. Without her, we would not be where we are today. Logan (and Sam) misses her terribly, and we all hope to see her again very soon. Often we get caught up with our own troubles and forget those that mean so much. Although I am a little late, I just wanted to say Happy Grandparents Day! We love you all!

This was wonderful :-) thank you for sharing. On National Grandparents Day, Sunday September 13th, Grandchild Connection was launched. Grandchild Connection is a service that strengthens the bond between grandparents and grandchildren. Grandchild Connection allows distant grandparents and grandchildren to develop close, meaningful relationships by utilizing today's technology of video conferencing. As part of the "VideoVisit" experience, we coach grandparents in educational and social activities that enhance the bonds they share with their grandchildren, and we provide the tools to achieve that end. We have launched our website today, National Grandparents Day, September 13th, 2009Come visit us @ grandchildconnection.com
